So one first gets a DHCP assigned address, then it can become a Fixed IP Address.
I'm sure you know this is bad practice because an address in the DHCP pool has no knowledge of a statically configured host and thus the same IP addtess can be handed out to a DHCP client.
On my Virgin Media router I can set the range of DHCP address so no risk of collisions providing fixed IP are outside that range. And no need to set assigned IP based on MAC Address.
The way you said it I thought you meant inside the pool range. Of course outside the pool is fine. :D
