If this is a senior design project you should not assume anything. In this case you should acquire, or draw, a schematic for the winch so that you know what you are trying to control, and how you're going to do it. If you have a 120Vac device and a 120Vac supply then you need to know why you're seeing 240Vac. Not least because it means you have to uprate all of your control circuits.The winch is rated at 120VAC wall power, however when we measured the voltage on the switch while a button was pressed with a multimeter, it went up to 240VAC. I assumed this was most likely due to the capacitor on the winch to increase starting current. Hope that clarifies things
