I got a bit lost in all of that, BUT please be aware that .local addressing IS supported on a pi, see the following link:-

zeroconf is equivalent to apple bonjour.

sometimes they don't go through routers.....

also the programs need to support bonjour addressing

ANDROID DOESN'T seem to support
