I have to say, going through life being smart is much better than the alternative. If that's elitist I'm fine with it. ...
There is nothing wrong with being smart and yes it is better than the alternative. I am not sure why you think I am saying that being smart is being elitist. I am calling out a behaviour of putting answers to posts that at least appear to be answering the question and then saying they are a joke.

If it is a correct answer and you say it is a joke, I don't understand the humor. If it is an incorrect answer and you say it is a joke, you appear to be misleading person asking the question. I stand by my statement that these type of jokes are at best confusing and at worst appear to be a form of elitism. Elitism in this case is not that the poster has knowledge, but that the poster is attempting to put down people that don't have knowledge in their particular area of expertise to make a "joke".

This forum is a valuable source of knowledge for Raspberry Pi users of all abilities. I would go further and say that this forum has been to some degree a part of the success that is Raspberry Pi.

My question still stands. Who is the audience for the "joke"?
