To me killing all a user's processes sounds like a carry over from the single-user single-tasking mindset that originated in operating systems designed to run on microcomputers. Although I remember being troubled by a similar shell feature years ago, it's interesting how long it took for Linux to become popular enough that people with such ideas outnumber those who just want a Unix-like operating system for their personal computer.I've been hit by this over the past few years. It's a bloody stupid change that benefits nobody and changes nigh on fifty years of well-defined and well-understood behaviour. All I know is that A) I haven't done anything - haven't called any weird programs or set any weird options or changed any config files and that B) Both screen and tmux work fine (since I use both, all the time, every day). Until today, I'd never even heard of this thing, so it is impossible that I could have done anything to mitigate it.No need to quote my (actual first) name. But agreed. And, finally, note that me and "dickon" don't agree on much, but we certainly agree on this topic...
