I can't believe it's an inadequate power supply, since I've tested it "barebones" with several supplies (including the Penta hat on a 60W supply) with virtually the same result -- and my laptop's USB 3.1 type A and USB-C/Thunderbolt ports should power (and have powered) pretty heavy loads with no problem. Still, a few more tests...

Observation: 5V supply on 40-pin header dips slightly when at the moment the USB-PD ratings are displayed; otherwise it's stable.
The Pi really does seem to be unstable -- runs for a bit then dies.
Again, I haven't gotten my hands on an official RPI supply, but given the number of power supplies (all w/ adequate specs, and some that should be great) I've tried with the same kind of results, I'm doubting that it's the power supply, but am leaning towards a defective Pi.
Got a good argument against my claim? Ideas of more things to try to zoom in on the source of the problem?
I can't believe it's an inadequate power supply, since I've tested it "barebones" with several supplies (including the Penta hat on a 60W supply) with virtually the same result -- and my laptop's USB 3.1 type A and USB-C/Thunderbolt ports should power (and have powered) pretty heavy loads with no problem. Still, a few more tests...

Observation: 5V supply on 40-pin header dips slightly when at the moment the USB-PD ratings are displayed; otherwise it's stable.
The Pi really does seem to be unstable -- runs for a bit then dies.
Again, I haven't gotten my hands on an official RPI supply, but given the number of power supplies (all w/ adequate specs, and some that should be great) I've tried with the same kind of results, I'm doubting that it's the power supply, but am leaning towards a defective Pi.
Got a good argument against my claim? Ideas of more things to try to zoom in on the source of the problem?
