What I Ould test if I were you is if a faked EDID will solve the problem. With a faked EDID the OS will looks at a file instead of reading the EDID data from the display.

Hmmm...things are getting too complicated for me, think that I'll go the easy way, return the monitor to amazon and pick a new one with a different native resolution
