Also, you might have to do something to the system program (whatever they are calling it this week) to tell it not to "manage" eth0. I'm not sure how to do that, as I usually end up killing it (when it was dhcpcd), so that it doesn't interfere.
I'm actually about to do something similar, where I have the main connection to the Internet on eth0 and i want to serve on eth1. I'm not sure now whether I need to disable eth1 in dhcpcd or not.
