In the early 90s as researcher at University we all worked on SunOS Unix workstations with X11.
Because we hopped from workstation to workstation, in order to avoid issues people did execute "xhost +".
So a colleague started small C code that created a fullscreen invisible overlay that captured all mouse and keyboard events.
He peeved colleagues that had no idea why keyboard and mouse on their display were not working anymore ...
