I had a very similar problem. Buried somewhere deep in this site I found this...Just append this to the end of cmdline.txt after changing the margin sizes of course... ![:)]( "Smile")
I dunno what your use case is but it works for me with Bookworm (full desktop) and X11 on a Pi4.
