Only if your software is using Qt 4 and draws it graphics to framebuffer directly, without any type of acceleration.
(Qt 5/6 is a problem, due to OpenGL stuff requiring new MESA to match new kernel).

Can just tell your old buildroot to compile newer kernel from the kernel source on github in the buildroot configuration.
