W.r.t. to removing the heatsink which comes with the official case: whilst I didn't press mine down "really hard" in the first place I was able to cut through the pad and lever it off using minimal force with a sharp scalpel-like cutting knife. Now running with an active cooler in a Pimoroni layer case:yes. So I can stay chill with the case cooler? You will not burn your Pi even when not using any cooler at all! The Pi will start thermal throttling at 85°C.
To me the noise generated by the active cooler when mointed to the official chassis (which requires the chassis fan to be removed) sounds better than from the chassis fan. But that's 100% subjective.
But keep in mind that the case comes with a heatsink which gets glued to the Pi5. Removing it later - i.e. when you've decided to use the active cooler for whatever reason - is not that simple. That's why I didn't used the case cooler and went active from the beginning.
Before removal: after removal and active cooler fitted: But "due care" and a little patience is needed, so YMMV.
