Thank you. That did the trick.

I do not intend to use the Pi as a desktop device. I was just surprised it wouldn't even run the apps the recommended OS came with. Being able to open a browser long enough to download the app I needed was stopping me from doing what I needed.

I got my app (Universal Gcode Sender for my CNC), and that was able to run as well. The Pi3A+ may still prove inadequate for that purpose, but at least I am now at the point where I can find out.
