Beginners • My cheap and easy LAN setup for a headless zero with on/off switch

The otg usb next to the power-only usb can also be used to power the zero and that's what I'm doing with this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N1X28F1, a usb powered cable that adds a LAN connection. I like an on/off switch for each zero too, so each cable is connected with this https://www.amazon.com/WLXKJY-Aluminum- ... B0BDFG1WZ7, a powered usb 3.0 brick that has an individual on/off switch for all 7 connectors.

I think this is the easiest way to add a LAN connection and on/off switch to any zero that won't be using the otg usb connector for something else. And if you take into account the saving of a rpi power block, this could even be the least expensive.

For housing my 4 zero 2W's I use the Pi-Hut Mini Cluster Case for Raspberry Pi Zero and it looks great. I'm really pleased with the complete setup, and adding some extra zero's is easy with their layer pack.

Having to use only one power socket for all zero's instead of a socket for each zero individually, is a relief. Cable de-cluttering is helped by the fact that all of my zero's are used headless, so one cable connected is enough. And I use very short UTP cables (25cm) to connect with the Ethernet switch, also contributing to the de-clutter.

Considering looks, cost, extensibility and ease of setup, I can't think of a better combination of hardware for my zero's. But I'm curious how others setup their zero's when used as I do now, please let me know. Oh... I use 2 zero's for Pi-Hole, 1 zero as web-server and another one for serving media. The zero 1.1 with TV-Hat stands apart but is powered and LAN connected in identical fashion.

BTW
As far back as almost 9 years ago viewtopic.php?t=131379 mentioned this little trick that adds a LAN port and power to a pi zero with just one cable. It was then and still is a bit unknown and to my knowledge no suitable cable is provided by the obvious Pi web-shops. I may lack the appropriate search capabilities though.
